Lex Powell is a Queer multi-hyphenate Overachiever (The Writer-Performer-Director-Comedian-Musician Type) based in NY.

Lex is currently developing a comedic TV series about the Fertility Industrial Complex, for which they are a 2024 Fellow in the Moonshot Pilot Accelerator.

Lex is the creator and host of the In Character series (an interview show that invites guests to undergo a surprise make-over and improvised green screen experiment), and the award-winning director of the Hearsay & Hyperbole multimedia performance ensemble. Recent plays include OK GURGLE (co-written with Candace Thompson - about digital surveillance/data collection and our dangerous attachment to artificial assistants), Not For Resale (co-written with Jess Barbagallo - a musical play about the commodification of Queer culture, for which they were awarded the 2018 NADTA Performance Award), An Invitation to Sleep, All Them That Weave The Wind, and Thank You For Calling. Lex composed and performed music in Sibyl Kempson’s 12 Shouts to the Ten Forgotten Heavens at the Whitney Museum and Sasquatch Rituals at The Kitchen. They have been a member of the Meerkat Media Arts Collective, the MT+NYC writing residency, and the Brooklyn Film Collective. They studied performance and psychology at Sarah Lawrence (BA) and NYU (MA). Shakespearean performance at London Academy for Dramatic and Music Arts, and comedy writing and improvisation at The Upright Citizen’s Brigade and The PIT in NYC. They have performed their original music and comedy from beer-soaked basement stages to renowned theaters and museums around the world.
